Please use the link (above) to report any shortages that
you notice in your area, regardless of the categories listed. This includes
foods, fuels, candles, ammunition, tools, parts - anything you went looking
for and couldn't find.
Mike B. sent us this report on 11 Apr 2009:
You asked about shortages in our areas: well, here in central-south Texas
ammo (9mm and 223, 7.62x39 are all hard to find. Also guns are in short
supply except for high$$ shot guns.
Gary Y. sent us this report on 04 Mar 2009:
In December there were a half a dozen .223 AR15-type rifles at the local gun
shop. Last Friday there were 2 left and they do not know when they can get
more, so I laid one away. .223 ammo is also scarce, as well as pistol and
rifle ammo. Both local Wal Marts have had nearly empty ammo shelves for
almost 2 months, and do not know when they will get more, as the warehouse
is empty too!
I went to Armalite and Bushmaster web sites and both said that the lead
times for new weapons has increased greatly. You had better get what you
need while the gettin' is good!
shmoj94 Sent us this -
Lol - if you haven't noticed.. 223, 308, 7.62x39 etc. are all gone...
Me, being the insightful bastard I am, horded all these things by the thousands over a period of a couple years. A local
gun shop by me {website: wwwthearmory.com} sold out a pallet of 5.56 in 24 hrs, several pallets of 7.62x39 and 7.62x51 all in 24 hours!!
But that's not the only place in the area. Scary {stuff} here man!! Anyway, this is all common knowledge to you,
I'm sure, just wanted to let y'all know what I see here in Va.
THEN, Ron sent us this e-mail:
Brass for reloading - This guy has an abundant supply of brass
(for reloading) for sale. E-Mail
[email protected]. Have him send you a price list. Best prices I've found
{Thanks Ron!}
Heating, Cooking & Lighting - Emergency Essentials:
Preparing for Power Blackouts {February/March 2004 Mother Earth News} lf you
live where winters are cold, having some kind of backup heating option is
probably the single most important item in your emergency kit. If you lose
electric power during a blizzard or ice storm, you probably will lose your
heat. And without heat, you won't be able to stay at home very long, even if
you have plenty of food and water on hand. Plus, if your pipes freeze and
burst, you will have an expensive repair bill to pay, too.
Keeping
your food safe in an extended power outage - How can a power outage cause
problems with my food? Power outages can affect refrigeration and safe
cooking practices. More than 250 diseases can be caused by bacteria found in
contaminated raw or undercooked food, such as meat, milk, eggs, fish or
shellfish. Proper storage and cooking of these foods can help prevent
food-borne illness.

Louisville, KY: County Fire Departments cite high fuel prices and
staff issues as primary reasons to stop 'automatic
aid' of Louisville Metro Emergency Medical Services. As stated this
week in the Courier-Journal (Louisville's daily newspaper)
Most of the fire departments in the county service
area (about two thirds of the county) have stopped responding to all but the
most serious of runs.
Updated by Sam (15 Dec 2008)
Regarding shortages, as I reported a few months ago, Louisville, KY has
begun to limit the number of fire runs are generated by medical emergencies.
This effected the 'county' portion of Louisville Metro. Now, however, it has
become necessary to close down engine 7 in the downtown area of Louisville
and use their firefighters to cover for absences (such as sick firefighters
or those on vacation), effectively creating a floating crew. Engine 7, until
it's closure, was the oldest continuously operating firehouse in the USA.
