With "Outsourcing," most of the American ability to produce the items we
need in our daily lives has also been outsourced to other nations. What we
used to produce from raw material to finished product is most often now
little more than assembly of component parts.
Most Americans now get their income by providing "services" to other
Americans who are providing services to others. We don't "make" anything
anymore. This is not a recipe for sustaining life. What happens when the
producers decide to quit producing or, more likely, quit providing their
goods to the U.S.?
We all know Americans have (or have had) the ability to "gear up" in times
of crisis and produce what we need to survive - but what if there isn't
time? What if there are too few of us left who can (or will) gear up to
provide for the rest of America? What happens then? In my eyes, this is just
another path leading to tyranny and government domination.
I know it's not easy getting by out there, but we should all endeavor to BUY
AMERICAN made products wherever and whenever possible - but don't be mislead
into thinking "American Assembled" is the same thing as American Made.
The Shortage in Skills: [Monday, May. 20, 1957]
THE U.S. is faced with a new kind of labor
shortage that threatens to check its industrial growth. It is not a shortage
of workers but of skills. In Washington the U.S. Labor Department disclosed
that unfilled demands for skilled workers have jumped 17% over last year,
against 9% for other workers. The Cleveland employment office reported it is
getting 1,000 applications each month for skilled metal workers and is
unable to fill them.
Shortage of Skills [Friday, Mar. 10, 1961]: It Grows Despite
Unemployment ~ FOR U.S. industry, the rise in unemployment to new highs last
week underlined a startling paradox: all around the nation, even in such
critical jobless areas as Detroit, jobs are going begging for lack of
skilled workers to fill them. Industry is hard put to find enough trained
craftsmen, but the problem is getting worse. For every 100 skilled workers
that the nation had in 1955, it will need 122 in 1965 and 145 in 1975. Yet
the nation's spotty training programs are not even turning out enough new
craftsmen to replace those who retire. Automation and such new industries as
electronics have vastly increased the demand.
Dumbing down - Wikipedia
Dumbing down is viewed either as a pejorative term for a perceived
over-simplification of, amongst other things, education, news and
television, or as a statement of truth about real cultural trends in
education and culture.
the deliberate dumbing down of
america is a chronological history of the past 100+ years of
education reform. Each chapter takes a period of history and recounts the
significant events, including important geopolitical and societal contextual
information. Citations from government plans, policy documents, and key
writings by leading reformers record the rise of the modern education reform
movement. Americans of all ages will welcome this riveting expose of what
really happened to what was once the finest education system in the world.
