Iran Means What It Says by Michael Rubin. AEI
Online: On the Issues, January 25, 2006: The destruction of Israel is a pillar of the Islamic Republic's ideology. Soon after
leading the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini declared, "Every Muslim has a duty to prepare himself for battle
against Israel." President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's call for Israel to be "wiped off the map" may have shocked Europe,
but his statements mark only a change in rhetorical style, not ideological substance. Ahmadinejad is not unhinged. He knows exactly
what he is doing. It takes skill and sophistication to become mayor of Tehran, a city of more than 12 million, let alone president.
When Ahmadinejad threatens to destroy Israel, he is deadly serious.
Telegraph | News | 'Divine mission' driving Iran's new leader Iran's
president actually relishes a clash with the West in the conviction that it
would rekindle the spirit of the Islamic revolution and - who knows - speed
up the arrival of the Hidden Imam.

Ahmadinejad's divine inspiration By Omid Memarian. Amid a struggle
between two major clerical factions for control of Iran's influential
Assembly of Experts, President Mahmud Ahmadinejad is trying to shore up his
conservative base by portraying himself as a man with a direct link to God.
Since Ahmadinejad came to office in August last year, his pursuit of a
nuclear-power program - repeatedly said to be for peaceful civilian purposes
- and harsh threats to "wipe Israel off the map" have isolated Iran more
than ever.

Just eight months before the September 11 terror attacks, top
conspirator Ramzi bin al-Shibh received a four-week visa to Iran and then
flew to Tehran—an apparent stop-off point on his way to meet with Al Qaeda

Ahmadinejad’s Armageddon The Iranian Mullahs either already have, or
will very soon be in possession of, nuclear weapons. This reality is
horrifying in the context of Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s verbalized
fantasy of annihilating Israel. Part of this fantasy, and also the
inspiration for it, is the apocalyptic world vision of Ahmadinejad -- and of
many of his co-rulers. This vision involves the Islamic Shiite belief in the
return of the Hidden Imam, who, according to some, was supposed to have
returned on August 22 -- which Ahmadinejad ominously referred to when
speaking about Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Official Laws against Women in Iran Limitations on the lives of
women are legalized in laws prohibiting women from the presidency,
leadership, judgeship and certain educational fields, as well as by
inheritance laws. Firmly rooted in the principle of vali-e-faqih, Iran's
constitution controls both the public and private lives and role of women.
"I was married at the age of 12, and I had my first child when I was
13. My husband was unemployed and we fought all the time. We never applied
for a divorce because I was afraid of losing my child. Finally one night, he
poured a bucket of acid over my body and I was completely burned. When I
rushed to the sink to flush my face and body. I realized that he had shut
off the main water supply. I was taken to the hospital. My operation was
held up pending advance money for the surgery, and permission from my
husband to operate on my face. My mother sold all of her valuables and
provided the money. My husband said he would only permit my operation if I
consented to not seeing my children for the rest of my life. Finally, with
hospital's pressure on the family court they allowed me to receive the
operation on my face and body. "
Ahmadinejad: Destroy Israel, End Crisis Iranian President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad said Thursday the solution to the Middle East crisis is to
destroy Israel. In a speech during an emergency meeting of Muslim leaders,
Ahmadinejad also called for an immediate halt to fighting in Lebanon between
Israel and the Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah. "Although the main
solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime, at this stage an
immediate cease-fire must be implemented," he said.

Why Is Ahmadinejad Smiling? Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is
often smiling, as if he knows something we don't, or at least not yet. It is
tempting to view him as a madman. That way, when he speaks of wiping Israel
off the face of the earth, we might convince ourselves that he is no more
than a fanatical front man for the Iranian Republic's desire to possess
nuclear weapons so as to assert itself in the manner of China or any other
aspiring great power.

Electronic Briefing Book- The Secret CIA History of the Iran Coup This
extremely important document is one of the last major pieces of the puzzle
explaining American and British roles in the August 1953 coup against
Iranian Premier Mohammad Mossadeq. Written in March 1954 by Donald Wilber,
one of the operation’s chief planners, the 200-page document is essentially
an after-action report, apparently based in part on agency cable traffic and
Wilber’s interviews with agents who had been on the ground in Iran as the
operation lurched to its conclusion.
