Home Page The new Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) has three primary missions: Prevent terrorist
attacks within the United States, reduce America's vulnerability to
terrorism, and minimize the damage from potential attacks and natural
disasters.
Federal Emergency Management Agency
The Federal Emergency Management Agency - a former independent agency that
became part of the new Department of Homeland Security
in March 2003 - is
tasked with responding to, planning for, recovering from and mitigating
against disasters.
Customs & Border Patrol
US Citizenship & Immigration Services
Created as a separate bureau by the Homeland
Security Act of 2002, USCIS allows the DHS to improve the administration of
benefits and immigration services for applicants by exclusively focusing on
immigration and citizenship services. This new Bureau is headed by the
Director of USCIS, who reports directly to the Deputy Secretary for Homeland
Security.
Office for Domestic Preparedness Support
The Office for Domestic Preparedness (ODP) is a component of the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security's Office of State and Local Government
Coordination and Preparedness (SLGCP). SLGCP is the federal government's
lead agency responsible for preparing the nation against terrorism by
assisting states, local and tribal jurisdictions, and regional authorities
as they prevent, deter, and respond to terrorist acts. SLGCP provides a
broad array of assistance to America's first responders through funding,
coordinated training, exercises, equipment acquisition, and technical
assistance.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Homeland Security Advanced
Research Projects Agency (HSARPA) joined the Small Business Innovation
Research (SBIR) program, in December 2003, our goal is to increase the
participation of innovative and creative small businesses in Federal
Research/Research and Development (R/R&D) programs and challenge industry to
bring innovative homeland security solutions to reality.
TSA | Transportation Security Administration The Transportation
Security Administration (TSA) was created in response to the terrorist
attacks of September 11, 2001 as part of the Aviation and Transportation
Security Act signed into law by President George W. Bush on November 19,
2001. TSA was originally in the Department of Transportation but was moved
to the Department of Homeland Security in March 2003. TSA’s mission is to
protect the nation’s transportation systems by ensuring the freedom of
movement for people and commerce. In February 2002, TSA assumed
responsibility for security at the nation’s airports and by the end of the
year had deployed a federal work force to meet challenging Congressional
deadlines for screening all passengers and baggage.
National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) The National Disaster
Medical System (NDMS) is a section within the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Response Division, Operations
Branch, and is responsible for supporting Federal agencies in the management
and coordination of the Federal medical response to major emergencies and
Federally declared disasters including: Natural Disasters, Technological
Disasters, Major Transportation Accidents, Acts of Terrorism including
Weapons of Mass Destruction Events. It is the mission of the National
Disaster Medical System to design, develop, and maintain a national
capability to deliver quality medical care to the victims of - and
responders to - a domestic disaster. NDMS provides state of the art medical
care under any conditions at a disaster site, in transit from the impacted
area, and into participating definitive care facilities.
