United States Coast Guard is a military organization that serves
around the world around the clock and protects the American public's most
basic needs: our safety and security, the environment, and our economy. The
Coast Guard, a military, multi-mission, maritime service that has answered
the calls of America continuously for over 211 years. Over that history, it
role as America's Shield of Freedom has remained constant, while its
missions have evolved and expanded with a growing nation. Located within the
Department of Homeland Security, the Coast Guard is unique instrument of
national security. Comprised of a personnel complement of active duty,
Reserve, civilian, and Auxiliary members, it provides a broad range of
services to the American people in times of peace and war. The Coast Guard's
five operating goals: Maritime Safety, Protection of Natural Resources,
Mobility, Maritime Security, and National Defense, define the focus of the
service's missions and enable it to touch everyone in the United States.
Throughout all its mission areas, the Coast Guard's greatest strength lies
in its people. Coast Guard men and women are a highly motivated group of
people who are committed to providing essential and valuable services to the
American public. The Coast Guard's military structure, law enforcement
authority, and humanitarian function make it unique within the government
and enable it to support broad national goals. It is well positioned to be
the first on scene bringing the right people, the right equipment, and the
right partnerships to respond to any emergency.
US Coast Guard Academy
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is unique among the service academies in that
we educate the leaders of a humanitarian force. The United States Coast
Guard is the oldest life-saving service in the world. The Academy was first
conceived back in the late 1800s. It was originally designed as a cadet
program with formal studies and examinations, which were administered
onboard a vessel. Things have changed over the last century. The Academy now
lies next to the Thames River in New London, Connecticut.
New Coast Guard
Task in Arctic’s Warming Seas WASHINGTON, Oct. 18, 2007 — For most of human
history, the Arctic Ocean has been an ice-locked frontier. But now, in one of
the most concrete signs of the effect of a warming climate on government
operations, the Coast Guard is planning its first operating base there as a way
of dealing with the cruise ships and the tankers that are already beginning to
ply Arctic waters.

needs through research and assessment.

Vessel Documentation Name Query You can access our copy of the
United States Coast Guard's (USCG) vessel data base and extract vessel
characteristic, documentation, and ownership data (please read our data
caveats page). This data base is updated on a monthly basis. Our query
program only retrieves documentation data about vessels which usually are
craft that are 5 net tons or larger and are documented by the USCG. Craft
less than 5 net tons ("boats") are numbered by individual states. Refer to
our vessel documentation page for information about who collects vessel
documentation data, the type of data collected and for the authorization and
rationale for publishing these data.

Virtual United States Coast Guard The
Virtual United States Coast Guard is in no way affiliated with the real world
United States Coast Guard nor represents that branch of the military in any way
or the ideas and missions of the United States Coast Guard. The Virtual United
States Coast Guard (VUSCG) is an organization of fellow flight simulator
enthusiasts that enjoy simulating the missions and procedures of our nation's
coast guard. We have found terrific enjoyment from trying to emulate the heroic
and life-threatening jobs that real-world USCG men and women perform as a daily
routine. Out of admiration and respect, we have tried to make this organization
as realistic as our virtual environment will allow and have made every effort to
maintain a similar level of professionalism to our real-world counterparts.
Individuals running Microsoft Flight Simulator (either 2002 or 2004) can connect
via the VATSIM System so that they can see
each other from their own aircraft. Using a voice communication program called
Roger Wilco, we are able to communicate
in real time with each other and perform synchronized procedures. These basics,
combined with our own customized aircraft fleet and sceneries, make flying the
missions and saving virtual lives really "as real as it gets"!
