~ SSRsi's Post-Apocalyptic Scavenging Page ~
Letting perfectly good materials and equipment go to waste is almost as great a crime as taking what you need from others who also need those items to survive. Stealing from others is wrong, recovering usable items which lay to waste is imperative.

Found a good "Post-Apocalyptic Scavenging" link? Let Us Know!

Looting versus Scavenging By Jim Cobb: It is a recurring theme in post-apocalyptic stories. The hero, in a moment of need, happens to stumble across a ravaged but still intact department store. Through diligent searching, he’s able to find food, clothing, and supplies. Thus re-equipped, he ventures forth to do battle with the ne’er do wells. But, does this mean our hero has fallen from the path of the straight and true? Isn’t this looting? Also available here.

Post-Apocalyptic Scavenging By Jim Cobb: When it comes to surviving after the apocalypse, there are a wide variety of skill sets you’ll need to rely on. Being able to rock a studded leather jacket and zoom around the blasted landscape in a souped up hot rod is just the beginning. One example of these skills would be the ability to scavenge materials and improvise necessary equipment.

Pre-Apocalyptic Scavenging: Sort of a modified version of the above article.

Post-Apocalyptic Scavenging - What Locations Would You Want?: An RPG discussion group for a gaming system discusses (mostly obvious) places to look for scavengable goods. Not overly realistic but also not a bad starting point. These picks will probably be quickly and frequently scavenged and will be DANGER areas... but then again, there really won't be any "safe" areas outside of your pre-established zone, will there?

7 Tips For Scouting & Scavenging Post-Apocalypse When you’ll be scouting alone or with a group, tactical gear is a must. Carrying a shotgun and a backpack just isn’t going to cut it. This article will cover everything you’re going to need for a day long scouting mission on foot.

OK here's the scenario: in the city [Discussion Group] - Total collapse - no more government (at least non effective) people dead or dying:  Would you put on mask and gloves and scavenge off the dead? Like shoes, clothes, pocket knives, anything worth stocking up on for trading to others at a later time or using it yourself. I know some will say how would you like to be the dead guy stripped down left naked that would be disrespecting the dead. Well I figure I wouldn't need them things if I'm dead nor be around to hear them laugh at my fat ol' belly - so why die yourself if you could pick something up off a dead person that will allow you or your family to survive or even prosper.

Post-Economic Collapse Scavenging - [Discussion Group] - Not much here beyond a video link {http://www.youtube.com/v/3d5qfjIgXu8} which is only marginally applicable. But the discussion may grow in the future.

Scavenging Dumps for Survival The people who make a living picking through other peoples trash are first class survival experts. The garbage pickers of the world not only obtain their food from the trash they sort through. In the landfill dumps they find and recycle all the materials necessary to sustain life.
