Bonus Criteria
National Guard/Army Reserve Armory:
While there are quite a few National Guard and Army Reserve members in
the two counties (not to mention Iraq and Pakistan) there are no
armories. There are plenty of guns, though, and most of the families
that have guns have more than one. Unfortunately, there are no real
ammunition or reloading shops up here. This would be a great opportunity
for any entrepreneurial member in the area.
Grain silo's, feed lots/stores:
I believe the closest major feed outlet is in Grand Junction. I don't
know enough about this (yet) so I will leave it at that. I believe this
would be a decent opportunity for some entrepreneurial member - and the
railroad cuts entirely across Grand county, providing cheap bulk
delivery. Someone who actually knows what they are doing in this aspect
would have to look into it.
Local breweries/distilleries:
Grand County has sixteen brew pubs and Summit county has 5 - they
are only producing beer/ale right now, but present the possibility of
brewing antibiotics and other goods/medicines. Not to mention more beer.
Operating cannery/bottler:
The town of Kremmling in Grand county hosts the Pepsi Bottling Group. I
have not investigated this site and cannot confirm whether it is an
actual bottling operation or merely an office or distribution warehouse.
There are no commercial canning operations in either of the two
counties. I have no idea if there are private or church canning
operations, but there are no listings for such that I could find. Both
of these are expensive operations ($30-50k and up for basic equipment,
not including a place to operate from). I don't know how feasible it
would be to set something like this up, and really, it may not be all
that essential after a catastrophe, only before one.
Local (small scale) manufacturing:
I suppose there are quite a few more than I am aware of, but the
point is, there are sufficient amounts of machinery, expertise, and
stock to manufacture pretty much anything we need. It may take a few
adjustments, cannibalization of excess equipment, and a good deal of
organization, but I believe we are okay in this department.
Mills/lumber yards:
There are a few lumber yards, one mill (in
Grand County), lots of tree cutting companies and equipment, and a
bumper crop of lodgepole pine
Local quarry w/cement facilities:
Both counties have quarries and cement
plants
Local highway department with road maintenance equipment:
Not only do both counties have their own road repair/building
departments, there are several State facilities as well.
Pre-existing large-scale alternative energy usage (wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, etc.):
Not so much - and this really baffles me.
Fly-in/out local airfield with aircraft parking & maintenance facilities:
Yes and no. There are 2 airfields in Grand County.

The Criteria List - How the 2 Counties
Stack Up (follow links to detailed information)
Membership Goals:
Our target goals for voting age self-reliant survivalist members:
Grand County: 13,406 population x 15% = 2,011 members
Summit County: 28,296 population x 15% = 4,245 members
Total voting age members wanted: 6,256,
although half that would make a BIG difference to the counties.
