Not a Potential (or previous) Target for Hostile Direct Attack
There has never been a terrorist attack in either county and the
counties have no nuclear strike objectives. There are no military or
strategic government activities or structures within either county.
Summit & Grand counties have a number of dams. Many of them, if they
failed, would produce catastrophic damage and probable loss of human
life. If/When you move here, keep this in mind. There are plenty of
great areas to live that are not in the flood path of failing dams. The
dams are a PLUS to the community in that they provide or have the
potential to provide power to the counties which does not depend on
outside sources. Some hazards you just have to learn to live with. In
any case, the potential for failure has been determined to be LOW in
both counties.
The dams could conceivably be a target, but the effort required to
breach these dams to the point of failure versus the effect of such a
breach would seem to negate the potential. Just not enough "bang" for
the buck.
During tourist season (winter, primarily) there exists a possibility of
terrorist activities, but ours are more "family" resorts. The
celebrities all go to Vail, Aspen, Beaver Creek, Telluride - and good
for them. If terrorists were going to go the hostage/slaughter route, I
would think the more media-worthy targets would draw the first straw.
