Original vehicle (prior to motor home conversion):
Originally, this vehicle was a “built-to-order” Type I ambulance. The base truck chassis was manufactured by Ford Motor Company with the ambulance conversion completed by Horton Emergency Vehicles Company.
We purchased this vehicle directly from an East Coast fire and rescue company that commissioned the original custom build-out of this vehicle. We specifically sought this particular type of unit per the reputation of the manufacturer as well as for it’s features and specifications. Horton E.V.C. is without a doubt one of the finest ambulance builders in the United States. After reviewing many vehicle options we elected this particular type of unit as a superior base vehicle for conversion to our requirements.
F.Y.I., Horton E.V.C. has such confidence in the quality of their design and manufacturing that they provide a full 15 year warranty insuring the vehicle’s structural integrity! This includes the entire modular, welded aluminum ambulance body and it’s structural components. Bet you won’t find a single RV manufacturer that even comes close!

Mechanical maintenance history:
This vehicle has always been well maintained. In it’s first life as a primary response rescue vehicle, as well as in later years when used only as a reserve ambulance, this rig was always garaged and regularly serviced. Each and every time it returned to the station, it was cleaned and inspected to insure it’s readiness for the next call. Most recently, (over the course of the last 6 months) we have utilized excellent technicians to perform complete inspections of the entire vehicle and to service or upgraded everything which we felt was necessary to insure excellent performance and reliability. There was no way we were going to head out into remote areas unless we felt comfortable with the reliability of our vehicle! Thus, if we had any doubt at all, we had it serviced or replaced. This vehicle is in excellent condition!

Vehicle maintenance items completed in the last 5 months:
We have literally spent thousands of dollars and a great deal of effort in the preparation of this vehicle for our own adventures.

SOME OF THE FEATURES AND EQUIPMENT INCLUDED:

Ford OEM Auxiliary power train control load management system. This system automatically balances engine RPM with power demand. This kit provides adaptive vehicle “charge protection” selectable fixed elevated idle operation, and or “manual” RPM control.
Awesome lighting inside and out! Exterior flood lights on all sides light up the night like you are at a ball park! Interior lighting that ranges from dim mood lighting all the way to the brilliance of an operating room!
Separate front and rear climate control units.
Heated / remote control side view mirrors
Granning air suspension system with auto-kneeling feature.

Complete suspension system includes conventional steel leaf springs and new, Gabriel shock absorbers combined with the Granning air ride system. This combination provides a much greater level of vehicle performance and durability. Conventional steel leaf spring suspensions offer varying spring rates. That is, as the vehicle is loaded and the frame deflects, the stiffer the steel springs become. The outcome is a rough ride which would lead to premature suspension wear, not to mention the possible damage to vehicle contents. On the other hand, air suspension systems employ air bags and with a height control valve a constant frame height is maintained. Air springs have a constant spring rate over a greater amount of travel (deflection). The air spring is designed to ride at the most desirable spring rate and is maintained by the height control valve.

Block heater
Roof-top cargo rack
AIREOX air purification system. New carbon filter installed 4/08.
Jack and tire iron and tow hooks

New Dometic RM2410 LP / Electric refrigerator with 3 year warranty.

Refrigerator compartment includes a whisper quiet, 2 speed electric blower and is ducted to exterior for excellent all weather performance. We have tested the fridge extensively in the desert heat and have confirmed that the configuration exceeds our expectations! Currently, the refrigerator is not connected to the propane tank and is configured to run only on electricity. Full-time connection to the propane tank is a simple procedure than can be done by most any RV service facility. We simply did not get around to that detail yet.

Water related systems and equipment:

20 gallon drinking water storage tank with easy connection to most any outside water tap
Multi-stage water filtration system w/ UV rated at 2 G.P.M. * includes:

Pre-pump sediment filter, 5.0 micron washable pre-filter, 5.0 micron sediment filter, 0.5 micron carbon block filter, Ultraviolet disinfecting lamp.
*The above system is designed for pulling water from wells or municipalities as well as from rivers and lakes. Included are all the replacement filters, UV bulbs and parts you will need for well over 20,000 gallons of purified water! You won’t have to worry about parts for years!

110V Simer flex vane impeller utility pump. This pump makes it easy for you to draw water from a river or a lake. The simmer pump also serves as an emergency back up in the event the 12V Surflow demand pump were to fail. The Surflow pump is part of the installed system and is used to push water thru the filtration system on it’s way to the sink.
1-25’ heavy rubber garden hose
Extractor hose extensions for grey water drain
1- small manual siphon pump
1- gallon distilled water for deep cycle batteries

Electrical systems and equipment:

Series 2000 electrical system with programming instructions and system specifications. Driver’s dash mounted on-board computer console with lighted digital display provides information and control of many vehicle systems. Display alerts driver if any cargo compartment of entry door is open. It also monitors the electrical system power consumption and can perform self diagnostics.
Battery and charge system includes 70 watt ICP Global solar panel (there is plenty of room for additional panels on the roof if desired) with ICP voltage regulator. The System has 4 deep cycle batteries linked in parallel and charged by a 215 amp alternator . Remote batteries are installed in protective boxes and vented to the exterior.

Included with the vehicle are the following three stoves:

New Coleman 5469 2 -burner propane stove with electronic ignition. (portable for indoor / outdoor cooking) This stove comes with a Coleman, 4 piece ‘toaster’. Two burner electric stove. Great indoors or out when at an RV park or plugged-in to any AC power supply.
Single burner backpacker’s stove (just in case all else were to fail!)

Note: We chose the portable Coleman stove because we enjoy cooking outdoors much of the time when camping. A more standard type cook-top could easily be installed if you so desired.

Couch / bed and bedding:
The couch is custom designed and built to provide both comfort and versatility. The couch rapidly converts into a bed big enough for two people to sleep comfortably, or it can be easily removed from the vehicle leaving the couch platform to serve as a large work table or single bed. Further, the remaining couch platform can also be quickly removed thus revealing a very large cargo area!

When folded-out into a bed, the mattress measures 54” x 72”. It is made of densely molded organic latex rubber on top of which is additional organic padding. It is firm and very comfortable. The mattress is covered with a custom made organic cotton canvas cover which is water resistant and zips-off for easy cleaning. The couch cover / bed spread was also custom made to provide additional padding as well as great protection from dirt and spills. Some bed sheets and an organic cotton comforter are included.

Two folding camp chairs
Folding table
Coleman cooler
4 tarps of various sizes

The BACKBOARD! Yep it’s always been with the rig and still is. This is a really versatile piece of gear. Beyond being an awesome rescue tool, it’s a great table, a sled for dragging a load of firewood out of the forest, it’s a wind block, it’s a bench and so much more. Perhaps best of all, it makes and excellent “creeper” for those occasions when it is necessary to slide under the vehicle for what ever reason.
