The Survivalist Pledge:

To help all that can be helped,
To defend all that can be defended,
To save all that can be saved,
To free all that seek freedom,
To stay alive as long as I can and stay free as long as I live.

There is a lot being said about the pending gun legislation and the increasing trend toward restriction and prohibition of gun ownership. I am not going to take up pages here going over the many, many reasons why the private ownership of arms is essential to life with freedom.

What I do want to do here is report to our members that Live Free has made a commitment to fight and we have been actively involved in this battle for many months! The Live Free National Survival Leadership Conference of Sept. 24, 1988, adopted a resolution "Supporting the Human Right to Possess the Means to Defend His or Her Life, Liberty, and Property."

This is a comprehensive document that provides the basis for our actions and programs. This resolution is one of the elements of the "Survival Initiative."

The Live Free Firearms Freedom Committee was organized in March and has already begun operation. I want to thank all of those members who are already involved in the battle and I must encourage all members to get involved and support the committee. Any organization with a name like "Live Free", that has as its primary purpose the preservation of human life and individual freedom, can never accept a restriction on the primary means of self-protection and freedom. The committee will not only work to resist all attempts to pass new legislation, it will go on the offensive to repeal existing laws and expand freedoms.

We will, of course, continue all of our other survival and self-reliance programs including those dedicated to civil and civilian defense activities, wilderness survival, and community safety.

THE LIVE FREE POSITION:

The Live Free position on firearms ownership is based on the principle that self-protection is a human right that can not be given or taken away by any state and that the right to self-protection automatically carries with it the right to possess effective arms for that purpose. We further contend that the ownership of handguns and military-type rifles designed for the defense of life, liberty, and property is totally justifiable and defensible. The justification of ownership for sporting and recreational purposes, while certainly justified, is of secondary importance and a weak defense for a human right. The line is that: CITIZENS HAVE THE ABSOLUTE RIGHT TO OWN FIREARMS DESIGNED FOR THE EFFECTIVE DEFENSE OF THEIR LIFE, LIBERTY, AND PROPERTY.
