Introduction to an Introduction
I had not, until the last moment, intended to write an introduction, unless my readers accepted the writing of early Indiana life as such. Introductions so often take the form of an apology that the dear public properly omits to read them, and so I will content myself with the remark that this reference to my first chapter shall answer for the introduction, for which I offer no apology.
