Occurrences & Situations:
Robbery is defined by the
US department of Justice as: The taking or attempting to take
anything of value from the care, custody or control from a person or persons
by force or threat of force or violence and/or by putting the victim in
fear.
Rape The majority of women think of rape as a stranger
jumping out of the bushes and sexually assaulting her. This is a good news
and bad news situation. The good news is that the "jump out the bushes
rapist is A) the rarest type and B) the easiest to avoid and prevent. The
same measures that
keep you from being robbed will protect you from being sexually
assaulted in this manner.

women's crisis center for immediate help.
Will You Be the Victim of a Violent Assault? - Take the Test

population of one million people crime and particularly violent crime
explodes. How adept are you at avoiding becoming a victim?
Women's Voice: Guns Effective Defense Against Rape A 1989 study (Furby,
Journal of Interpersonal Violence) found that both male and female survey
respondents judged a gun to be the most effective means that a potential
rape victim could use to fend off the assault. Rape "experts" considered it
a close second, after eye-gouging.

Mall Security America's malls face a challenge: keeping terrorists
out, welcoming shoppers in. We wouldn't put up with metal detectors, so
"mall cops" are left to guard the front lines. The nation's second-largest
mall company is right here in Chicago, managing everything from Oakbrook
Center to Water Tower Place. They're using video surveillance that might
impress the Pentagon, training their guards to study how shoppers act, not
just how they look.
Mall Security Officials Adopt Israeli Safety Measures The recent
wave of suicide bombings in London's mass-transit system has heightened
fears in counterterrorist circles of similar attacks in America. Federal
officials stress there is no specific information that suicide bombers are
poised to strike here.
America's Malls Prepare For the Unthinkable The possibility of
suicide attacks against the nation's 1,200 enclosed shopping centers,
bustling icons of U.S. wealth and consumerism, is still only a grim theory.
But the mere idea has transformed the way private security companies, like
Mr. Lufkin's employer, IPC International Corp., train their guards and go
about their business. The inspiration for their preparation for the
unthinkable did not come from the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the
Department of Homeland Security. It came from Israel, the country with the
most experience keeping human bombs out of its shopping centers.
Inside a Domestic Terror Attack
November 9, 2004 For the past two years the
Islamists have been busily constructing the infrastructure of a terror
network in the United States and lately have been staffing it with the
expendable bodies that will be used to carry out the attacks. Beyond
that they have also moved to put in what in their view is dependable
leadership.
Man Gets Leniency For Helping Catch Rapist The New York Man Got
A Plea Deal For Turning In The Wisconsin "mall Rapist." Fifteen years
may seem a lenient sentence for a man who admitted videotaping himself
and another man sexually assaulting two young girls. But his cooperation
helped authorities catch a serial rapist wanted for more than a decade
in Wisconsin, a federal prosecutor said Thursday.

Street fighting Survival on the street is about a whole lot more
than physical prowess or fighting skills. People who live with constant
violence are cunning, vicious, dangerous and most importantly, they
cheat. This is NOT the same thing as the much touted "there aren't any
rules in a streetfight" B.S. that Internet warriors (who touch
themselves while watching Roadhouse) like to parrot. The
"streets" have rules, just like any other place where human beings get
together and interact.
Tactics & Solutions:
Boys & Girls Clubs Gang
Prevention/Intervention Through Targeted Outreach
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America
has developed a special gang prevention and intervention initiative
targeting youth ages 6-18. Through referrals from schools, courts, law
enforcement, and community youth service agencies, the tested and proven
Targeted Outreach program identifies and recruits delinquent or at-risk
youth into club programs and activities. The initiative is sponsored by
the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) of the
U.S. Department of Justice.
Gang Awareness Training Education (G.A.T.E.) G.A.T.E. is a school based
anti-gang education program in which the goal is to demystify the gangs
and the gang subculture to young people. G.A.T.E targets 5th-8th grade.
It is taught by police officers from the community they serve.
Gang Outreach Gang Outreach is a faith-based,
award winning, multi-racial, multi-cultural gang prevention and
intervention program in Lake County, Illinois, providing services
designed to positively influence the lives of at-risk youth in four
areas: Developmentally, Emotionally, Socially and Spiritually.
Gang Resistance and Education Training The G.R.E.A.T. Program is a
school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum.
The program’s primary objective is prevention and is intended as an
immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership.
Preventing Car Crime in Car Parks [UK] The car park, as a managed
facility, provides a great deal of scope for controlling car crime.
Nevertheless, as this and previous studies have shown, thefts of and from
cars can be a serious problem in some car parks. Earlier work has largely
focused on evaluating initiatives taken in single car parks. This study
takes a wider look at the car park industry, examining the problem of car
crime in many different sorts of public car parking environments commonly
found in our city centers and towns, and at train stations.
